By 2030, Russian parties plan to develop hydrogen-powered trains in the Sakhalin region, a Russian island in the far east. They will be equipped with the Cognitive Rail Pilot system, an AI-based autonomous locomotive driver assistance system.

Cognitive Agro Pilot’s system not only allows a combine to steer itself but also to understand and react to its surroundings. Instead of relying on a satellite signal, the system uses a camera to read the terrain ahead and its AI programming decides how to respond to what it sees. The system should be available in Canada this year.

Cognitive Pilot to release autonomous driver assistance system for trains
Cognitive Pilot will launch mass production of its Cognitive Rail Pilot artificial intelligence (AI)-based driver assistance system for locomotives in 2021, with plans to manufacture more than 2000 units.
New autosteering system works without GPS
Cognitive Agro Pilot is using computer vision and machine learning for precision guidance. The system detects obstacles, including people, animals, metallic objects and stones along its way, without GPS navigation and RTK positioning. Cognitive Agro Pilot can operate in territories with a weak satellite signal.
Russian AI-enabled harvesters reap 720,000 tons of crops
From June to October 2020, over 350 New Holland, John Deere and Claas autonomous combines equipped with the Cognitive Agro Pilot system farmed over 160,000 hectares of field and harvested more than 720,000 tons of crops.
